Two great days soured by one negative experience

点评：I reflected a great deal before deciding to write this so here goes. We thoroughly enjoyed two afternoons enjoying pizza and wine outside. The service was outstanding and the setting just glorious. The young staff serving were simply exemplary. That was easily five stars. In our second visit we decided to visit the cellar for a guided tasting. It is a lovely set up at Kinross and the ethos of promoting independent wine makers laudable. The wines we tasted were fine. My criticism was the approach taken by our guide. A group of young kids were a little late for the scheduled tasting. They had each paid their $25 (I will return to the fee soon). Because they were late they missed out on the first white. The four of us who were there, said we were happy to allow the kids to have the first wine. It would not have taken long. No, was the response. Even at the end, good will and good business suggests a pour would be both hospitable and generous. No again. We were going to buy some wine but the guide’s attitude put an end to that. Luckily we had a pizza and a bottle at the bistro. Finally, when it became clear that no one was buying a wine the guide’s attitude became even more cold. Now, I have been to many tastings and I totally accept the necessity for a tasting fee but ( I hope I am wrong here) if one pays $25 surely that price would be taken off the price of a purchase? That is the approach taken by every vineyard I have visited. Is it the Kinross way? Hopefully one guide was having a bad day, but it left us with a bad taste in our mouths.
