点评:The Champs Élysées is often said to be the most glamorous avenue in the world so it’s not surprising that it features high on a lot people’s list of things to do in Paris.
It runs between the Arc de Triomphe and the Place de La Concorde.
We started at the Arc de Triomphe and walked the length of it, which took us just under an hour, walking at a leisurely pace. We weren’t stopping for coffee or doing any extended shopping but we weren’t rushing either.
I’m not sure that it lives up to the hype.
Certainly all the glamorous, high-end names are here - Chanel, Tiffany’s, Dior, Bulgari, Cartier, Rolex, and the Louis Vuitton flagship store. The enormous monogrammed LV trunk that stands next to the store stopped us in our tracks (it must be 6 or 7 storeys tall). We later learnt that it’s a clever hoarding disguising the construction of the first LV hotel.
We strolled past historic shopfronts like Guerlain and Fouquet's with its distinctive red awnings and flags flying. However many of the shops are ones you’d see in any international city or big shopping centre - Zara, Nike, Lululemon, Sephora, even McDonalds.
Without a doubt, the highlight of the walk was the Petit Palace (nearer the Place de La Concorde end). The architecture alone is beautiful but it’s worth allowing some time to go inside. Entry to the museum and gallery is free and when we went, there was no queue.
NOTE:
The official end of Champs Élysées is at Place de la Concorde but if, like us, you are looking to extend the walk, the entrance to the Tuileries Garden is here and is you stroll right through the garden, it will bring you out at the Louvre.
