点评:We used the Stromma ferry from the Klara Malarstrand berth (numbers 4 or 5) which is a 50 minutes sailing to Drottningholm. A very pleasant trip along the lake which takes you directly to the palace. We had decided to skip the Palace tour in favour of the gardens, a walk around the park land and a guided theatre visit.
The English Park is laid out in ‘Capability Brown’ style with attractive lakes. The more formal Baroque garden while having a defined structure with topiary and impressive water features is very basic with little detail or planting so the overall effect was a bit disappointing. However it is free to enter and it makes a pleasant change from busy Stockholm
The theatre visit was interesting, apparently it is one of two wooden theatres still surviving in Europe and still hosts operas several times a year. The visit lasts 30 minutes but is restricted to the auditorium and several adjacent rooms. Sadly backstage was out of bounds.
Recommend taking a photo of the map at the entrance to the gardens as signposting is limited once you are in there.
Overall this was a good half day unguided excursion.
