点评：This archaeological site contains the ruins of the ancient Roman Theatre as well as another theatre or Odeon. The larger Theatre was for performances of tragedies, comedies and other shows. The smaller Odeon was used for concerts, literary recitals, poetry and music competitions. Both were built on a hill, and on a site that had already been originally used as a theatre by the Greek inhabitants who had established the city of Catania in earlier times. Unfortunately over time the structures were damaged and partly destroyed and people built their houses and other buildings on top of much of these theatres. Today they are surrounded by private buildings! Authorities are undertaking restoration and preservation measures to ensure these cultural treasures survive the passage of time. The information provided on the site is a bit limited. Mostly it is in Italian, but probably sufficient information in English is also provided. We had no trouble getting a good understanding of the history of the place.
