点评:Enjoyed the Burg more than I expected. Inside the walls is a lovely, mellow looking building. It had a lot to do: parapets with a view to walk, a powder tower to climb, a small church to visit, an art exhibition, and a small but interesting (and beautifully curated and displayed) collection of local coins of various denominations, as well as some very old books.
There was a small alchemy exhibition, and claustrophobic cells to explore. The residential part of the house was quite grand, but not endlessly numbing like some grand homes. It actually seemed like a home that would have been lovely and comfortable to live in.
There was even a small collection of mint carriages.
Delightful to get a taste of all my favorites, without being overwhelmed as many places do. Well worth the cost of admission, and will easily take 2-3 hours, if your like me and look at everything.
Be sure to circle the Burg from the outside of the walls. In one of the rooms is a painting of the Burg as it appeared in the 1600’s, by the famed landscape painter, van Ruisdael. The exterior wall, built into the steep cliff looks the same, but (unless he took artistic license) it’s fascinating to compare the isolation of then, versus the town nestled up to it now.
