点评:This is a small information centre with exhibition space which takes you through the key main elements of the island and its volcano. You start with the history of the island which includes some of Sakurajima's violent eruptions in 20th century history, and the good and bad points of living side by side of the volcano such as how fertile the land is resulting in unique biodiversity for vegetation. There is mention also of the preventative measures taken to better mitigate disaster again but this I felt is left for the International Erosion control centre museum to cover in more detail.
The exhibition space is a little dated, so do not expect massive amounts of interactives and fancy audio/visual displays but it gets the job done with written text in English and Japanese. Thus, it covers the main points that you need know about making it an ideal first stop when visiting Sakurajima. I also liked the large model of the island as it appears today. The shop is small but sells some of better souvenirs that can be found on the island.
