点评:We wanted to stretch our legs during a brief stop in Nambucca Heads and the Foreshore Walk was a lovely way to do this. Nambucca Heads is an under-rated coastal town. It really is a very pretty place, with a beautiful coastline.
We only had time to walk a short section of the foreshore trail. Starting from Gordon Park we wound our way along the Nambucca River.
The highlights included the mangroves boardwalk and the colourful V-wall, a rocky break-wall where locals and visitors have left their mark, creating an outdoor gallery of graffiti/rock art.
A few of the ‘artists’ have some creative talent, others not so much.
Another feature of the walk is a series of information boards along the way that tell the story of the town’s ups and downs. It’s hard to imagine now but it was once an important port. Ship building and timber mills were big business in the 1800s through to the early 1900s
We were told to lookout for dolphins. We kept a keen eye on the water and although we saw lots of fish and pelicans, it wasn’t a dolphin-day for us and we didn’t see any.
We had to cut the walk short because we had to get back to our road-trip but if we’d had more time, we would have continued all the way around to Shelley Beach.
