点评:Our visit to the Bay, on the south-west of the island, revolved around a wedding on the beach which turned out to be an idyllic spot in glorious sunshine!
With a good stretch of soft white sand, gently lapping water and a backdrop of the Isle of Arran it had all the necessary basics - added to by an assortment of props by family who operate the nearby farm and with the help of outside caters. Many guests took the unusual opportunity to have a dip in the water in the course of the afternoon, especially the children present.
There is a layby with a few parking spaces just off the A844 road and a signpost which lists the Bay’s attractions. For most people this will typically involve a walk along the sand which is just a few minutes away down the farm track.
There are no facilities at the beach, other than three self-catering pods on the beachhead which are privately rented by Scalpsie Farm. Passing visitors therefore need to be prepared accordingly.
There is a viewpoint from a heightened spot on the road beyond the farmhouse which overlooks the bay and the local seal colony.
On another day we visited Ettrick Bay, a bit further north, which was a little disappointing as the tide was in and the café there was closed.
