* This architectural wonder is historic, amazing, beautiful, classic and iconic
* It is a very very very busy station with commuters, travelers and tourists
* All EuroStar and Thalys intercity and international trains enter and depart from here
* There is direct non stop transportation to and from Schiphol International Airport
* This is the main transportation point of trams, metro, ferry and buses throughout the city
* It is also the main starting point for tourist canal cruises
CONS
* The place is crowded and constricted inside- dizzying and not well lit
* There certainly is inadequate signage- from how to descend from the platform on arrival to where to find platforms on departure and where are the metro entrances
* There is not a clearly visible information stand- if at all
* There seems ti always be much construction inside
* Many of the passageways are gated to current ticket holders only
* The stores, shops and quick eateries are functional and utilitarian and certainly not exciting
* Parts of the "lobby" are open to the weather elements

"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... again this year, (at least) four times in two days- this time, both arrival from London on the EursStar, round trip to Den Haag and then to depart via Schiphol Airport and also several additional times to get re-oriented and to escape the bitter rain and cold.
Again, it was not simple to see where to leave from and for the platform- steps, ramp, escalator or especially elevator,
Again- and even worse than last year- I found the inside to be narrow, constricted and dimly lit- not attractive at all. It was not easy to maneuver because of the crowds, the narrow spaces, the restricted areas permitting entry only with a ticket and the construction, which caused noise and disruption
There is no clear place for information, questions and directions. I had to ask first a police officer and then a construction worker. I never did find the information booth.
The big plaza area outside is classically European in every way: the building, the waterways, the trams. That was delightful.
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
Being there is free; transportation to and from there costs money (except for the amazing IJ ferry)
WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
Only because it is the entry and departure point for Amsterdam
ADVICE
* Since you are bound to be here when you arrive to or depart from Amsterdam by public transportation, know what it's like inside: no need to explore- just get out as quick as you can and admire the plaza in front of the building and step back and then enjoy the magnificent architecture.
