点评:We were so looking forward to visiting the People’s History Museum but came away feeling a bit disappointed really. It has a feel of being designed by committee - in trying to please everyone it ends up pleasing no-one. Not exactly that, but not far off.
I appreciate the it describes itself as a “History” museum, but in this it falls short and fails to encourage, inspire and inform in a way which communicates that the fight for a fairer society and for greater equality is actually a living thing and which continues to this day both here and abroad.
The museum fails to stimulate thought and reflection. It doesn’t encourage questioning and challenging of the status quo and doesn’t ask us to consider alternative systems and ways of living.
The museum presents a stereotypical idea of a museum, dusty, dimly lit, disorganised and confusingly laid out, stagnant and staid, lacklustre and unenthusiastic.
It could be so, so much more.
