点评:Passing along the elegant Victoria Jubilee Rotunda was the beginning of an unforgettable visit of a couple of hours.
Albeit everything at street level is a Victorian recreation it is most convincingly enacted with imposing statues of Romans on all four sides.
Within the museum is a collection of precious artefacts from Roman times. Sculptures, masks both theatrical and religious, funereal offerings and curses are wonderful to admire. The latter are intriguing. Written on lead or pewter for permanence they were then cast into the Sacred Spring.
A head of Sulis Minerva in gilt bronze is remarkable. Found in Stall Street in 1727 it depicts one of the most important Goddesses both for Celtic peoples and then onwards for the Romans when Minerva was added to her title.
A fabulous journey through the hot springs, baths and all aspects thereof was a marvellous culmination.
