点评:There are several salt mine tour opportunities in and near Salzburg, so this one isn't unique in that sense, but it is a tour that we couldn't have done many other places in the world. We chose this one in Hallein, about 30 minutes outside of downtown Salzburg, since it fit well into our schedule and got good reviews. We had a rental car, so getting there was straightforward and parking was easy.
We (and our teenagers) enjoyed the fact that you got to participate in a few different modes of transportation, including a train ride into/out of the mine, wooden slides in a couple locations, and a boat ride on a small underground lake. The tour guide knew her stuff and we learned a lot from the experience.
The tour overall took about 90 minutes. We didn't pre-purchase tickets for our visit in late June, and there was no issue getting 4 of them after we arrived there for the next tour slot. There was a decent amount of walking required after we got off the train; it was fun to note that we walked from Austria into Germany (there was a sign) and back as part of the tour.
