An Exceptional Day With An Exceptional Guide. Just Do It. You Won’t Regret It!
Executive D-Day Private Tours的点评
点评:After researching extensively for an independent private tour guide for our family of three adults I came across Bertrand Saudrais on the internet.
I checked out the tours he offered and read a lot of the reviews on his TA listing.
l sent an email to him directly outlining what we were looking for & Bertrand responded promptly to my questions.
We were able to work out a tour with him that accommodated all of our requests for the day.
There were a couple of other guides l had contacted but they kept messing me around wanting to change dates.
Bertrand picked up my husband, adult son and myself in a very comfortable VW Sharan from our Bayeux B&B at 9am.
He was aware that my husband had some mobility challenges and he took that into account for the way we accessed places.
Bertrand drove to the Bayeux Cemetery so he could show us some specific graves of Australian servicemen. Following this we went to the German Cemetery, then on to Sainte-Mère-Églis for morning coffee and to visit the church to see the stained glass windows dedicated to the paratroopers.
We drove through the Hedgerows & past information boards & memorials. On to D-Day Landing Beaches, Battlements & hidden bunkers.
Unfortunately we had atrocious weather for most of the day which restricted access & time spent in some areas we were visiting.
There was a couple of places we were unable to access at all due to flooded roads from the excessive rainfall, so we went to alternate locations instead. My son was talking to Bertrand about the church the medics used to treat wounded servicemen in, so he took us to visit the church in Angoville & told us about the medics. He then surprised me with more stained glass dedicated to these men.
Bertrand would pull off the road at different points to show us pictures in his folder of what he was talking about and what we were seeing. He lives in the area & grew up locally hearing all about WW2 from family. He had many anecdotes and stories to regale us with. He made history come to life.
He had made a lunch booking at a lovely local restaurant in the harbour town of Carentan les Marais for us.
Late in the afternoon the wind & rain eased and we were able to experience the lowering of the flags, taps & the last post at the American Cemetery, followed by our visit to Omaha Beach.
Bertrand was a very knowledgeable, entertaining & enthusiastic storyteller. Despite the weather we had an extremely interesting day with him.
He returned us to our B&B around 6.30pm after an amazing but very wet, windy & cold day. We would happily recommend Bertrand and would love to visit with him again hopefully in better weather!
