Well-Preserved, D-Day Tank On the Path to the Arromanches Headland

点评：This M4A2 Sherman is about halfway up the path leading from the beachfront to the Arromanches headland.
We checked out the remnants of the Mulberry Harbour which are strewn along the sand, then headed up the steep path.
The tank is a good point to stop and take a breather. It is sobering to reflect that below this point, some 25,000 British soldiers landed at Gold Beach on D-Day, the June 6, 1944 and from here, you can look back down over the town and part of the beach.
The tank is positioned on top of a large German bunker so its slightly elevated. Despite the exposed position and salty sea air, it is very well-preserved.
It’s free-standing so you can walk right around it.
On one side, the name of the tank, ’Berry Au Bac’, is printed clearly in large letters. The town of Berry Au Bac was significant because it’s where French tanks were used for the very first time in 1916, during WWI.
The blue and white insignia above the name indicates that the tank belonged to the French 2nd Armoured Division, which was under the command of General Leclerc.
We continued uphill to the 360-degree Theatre and the D-Day 75 Garden at the top of the headland. It is a relatively steep but short walk of about 10 minutes. If you don’t fancy the walk, there is a car-park at the top.
NOTE: A jeep and cannon can also be seen in the centre of the village, out the front of the Museum.
