点评:We had an amazing private guided tour of Giza and all other related sites. In the end our tour guide took us to this place. We also didnt say no because the tour guide had been too nice to us all day. He also mentioned that there is no compulsion to buy. It started off with a good note as they tell how papyrus is made etc, and also offer welcome drinks like tea or coffee. Once the process was explained, we were given small paper and pen to roam around the shop and write the model number of the pieces we liked. To be honest, everything was super super expensive. The salesman keeps roaming around saying you quote a price, you quote a price. My wife and I somehow, just for the sake of our awesome guide and his guided tour, showed interest in a painting which was some 14k+ LE. We were told in the start itself that 50% off will be given on the written price because of the tour guide. We still thought 7k was way too much for the size of painting we selected. I was curious to know why the painting was so highly priced, was it because of the quality of paper or the artwork on it, because I found both as ordinary only to be honest.
Somehow just to end the conversation with the salesman, i quoted the price of 2.5k for the 14k painting thinking that he won't even go and ask the owner. To our surprise he went to the counter and returned in a few seconds and said, okay he said yes. We were so disappointed because I was just trying to avoid him and was thinking of 2k in my mind, but still said 2.5k. This actually left a very bad note as we thought it was just a way of minting money, as much as it could be. The same types of paintings at the museum shops and hotels were less than 1k LE. Our whole experience of that day was ruined because of this.
I would recommend not buying from this shop or at least buying with 1/10th of the price. It's a shame that they are looting the tourists using tour guides. After this, I really didn't feel like tipping my tour guide but I still let it go..
