On line we found Vanessa & Marcel of Hello Mauritius. Their efficiency in communication and planning our request for a private tour was superb.
We were picked up in a prearranged taxi dot on time, smart vehicle lovely taxi driver. He drove us to Blue Bay, about 1 hour 10 mins from Solana Beach Hotel and walked us to the jetty to a warm welcome from Vanessa & Marcel. It was a glorious sunny day throughout with a little cloud.
Vanessa introduced us to our skipper Oliver & crew Wayne to begin our individually crafted itinerary.
A 23 seater speed boat, all for ourselves lots of cushioned space with a canopy should you wish to avoid the sun. Soft drinks and punch also included.
After the safety briefing we set off for a slow cruise across the crystal clear waters of the lagoon. Oliver explained where we would go to give us the best opportunity of sightseeing with no other boats around. You definitely need sun protection lotion.
We sailed by Île de la Passe home to special research on flora and fauna, with Oliver explaining about the island and the view over to Mahebourg.
We crossed the inlet which opens into the reef and saw in the distance the wreck of the Dalblair we came back to this on our return journey.
Heading out at full throttle to see the fish farms and look for dolphins, more on dolphins later. We had a cup of delicious punch before we left this point.
Full throttle on, absolutely amazing speeding across the lagoon to visit the GRSE waterfalls. The sail up the river is short and very beautiful and we the only vessel there. Oliver pointed out fruit bats and macaque monkeys explaining about their origins. The falls were in full flow, great photo opportunity.
Full throttle to Île aux Cerfs for our private lunch set up on the beach with the most stunning views out to sea and back to the mountains. We had requested a bottle of champagne which was onboard and served with lunch. Delicious garlic bread, BBQ chicken, rice and fish and the lobster we had requested followed by BBQ banana and pineapple, excellent food and service with wine, water and soft drinks. We were the first boat there and had our lunch completely in private with our own private view for about 45 minutes, well planned and glorious.
After lunch we sped across the lagoon to Ile aux Phare to visit the ruins of the lighthouse and view the magnificent sight of the ocean crashing against the island and with no one else on the island, truly remarkable visit.
As we left Ile aux Phare we saw 5 dolphins which was quite magical. Full throttle for a swim by Île de la Passe a glass of punch and full throttle to get a close up look at the ship wreck of the Dalblair where Oliver explained the history behind the wreck. Then full throttle and back to Blue Bay.
Our taxi driver was waiting in a huge red pick up truck and he also told us some history behind the island and its naval battles which tied in with Oliver’s off shore explanation of the war between the French & English.
We have travelled the world and can honestly say this ranks as one of the best trips we have ever taken, interesting, energising and really fantastic fun.
