This trip had been canceled several times for us due to covid and I was so excited it finally happened since I am a big fan of World War II history. However, let me start by saying the live aboard only visits a couple of spots with wrecks and they are all in very poor visibility (less than 30 feet). As far as the diving I give it a "C" rating. There was plenty of fish and some of the reefs were beautiful, but the other than fish factor was very poor. What I mean is there was very little octopus, cuttlefish, crabs, lobster, nudibranchs, eels and rays etc. There were some very cool swim throughs and tunnels though. The night dives were a total waste and generally very murky.
Now for the ship. It looks way nicer in the photos than it does in person. This is definitely not a luxury ship and the service compared to other liveaboards is below par. It was comfortable, but this is a no frills boat. For the price of the trip I expected a lot more. There is no wake up call in the morning and no hot towels when you exit the night dives or hot cocoa. No turn down on your blankets nightly and no chocolate on your pillow. However, the food was actually some of the best I have ever had on a liveaboard. The ship also had not outside toilet, which meant if you had to go you had to do it in your room.
The staff was just okay. The briefings were out of control long with much unnecessary information. I felt that those doing the briefings just like to hear their voices. There were times when there were no dive masters in the water with our group and other times when the dive masters would just leave you behind. I asked why they do it that way and I was told that they get very experienced divers on their boat and that the divers don't care to follow anyone. I found that hilarious as I have plenty of experience and I prefer to follow someone so I don't have to navigate. Also, can you really say all of your guests are experienced.
My biggest issue was the couple in charge (I will not use names). They definitely had a left leaning agenda and wanted to spout untrue or ugly information anytime they could. I honestly believe it was a lack of intelligence. The male made a remark once during a briefing that 70% of the Great Barrier Reef was gone due to climate change. Well I was just there and can tell you he is wrong. Also, he told us we could not use lights on seahorses when taking photos as it blinds them and then they can't eat and will die. Another stupid remark. He is right that seahorses don't have eyelids and can't close their eyes, which makes lighting an issue, but I have repeated several dive locations through the years and seen the same seahorses each time. I can say these seahorses are subjected to dive lights daily and have survived for me to view them many years in a row. We were on the ship at the time that Donald Trump was shot and the female of the managing couple said out loud, "Someone should have done that a long time ago." That was ugly and hateful. Lastly, the female did not understand professionalism and repeatedly used foul language in conversations and during dive briefings.
I would like to leave with this. The managing staff constantly spoke about protecting the reef and the wildlife; however, it was ironic that on the final night they have a champagne party for the guests and the male was popping the corks and allowing them to fly into the ocean. Also, there is a dive they call "Devils Highway" which is their best spot for seeing manta rays. This is a dive I wish I had never done as it was so poorly briefed and was so poorly executed that much of my camera gear was damaged and not worth my time. But here is the kicker as you are required to sit on perfectly healthy coral for this dive. We killed a lot of organisms to see the manta rays on this dive. See my attached photos of us sitting and lying on the reef.
