点评:Now I’m not some world traveller or anything like that but I’m a huge hiker/walker and I seek out many of the beautiful places the UK has to offer, I have a top 5 list of stunning places that changes as the years go on and I visit more beautiful places I’ve not yet discovered. Carsington Water is now one of those and probably taken a place in my top 5 through a very magical thing that happened which I’ll get to shortly.
I’ve done a lot of the Peak District stemming back from when I was a kid going with my parents and family. I’m now 51 so I’ve seen a fair few places over those years.
I’m always searching for new ones and alas, I came across this stunning place through a search, only an hour away from my house. I can’t believe I’d never heard of it before.
I’d read reviews of course and knew there was a short and longer walk around the reservoir, I took the longer one which turned out to be amazing.
I parked at the Sheepwash carpark as I’d read it was £4 for all day. I think the main carpark is £7.50. Now I’ve been though I’d pay the £7.50 no problem as I know it goes back into the upkeep.
The visitors centre wasn’t open as I was super early but I looked around it and it looks really nice, so big too. Reminded of some big posh hotel. Everywhere was spotlessly clean, pathways were very even and because of the dryer weather there wasn’t much muddy paths at all.
The reservoir is HUGE and from certain angles looks almost like the ocean. The main part where it opens up just past the visitors centre was stunning and I felt a little like I was walking along a costal front, it was a really unusual sunny and warm day to ( Sunday 9th March) so really gave it that holiday feel. Lovely to see the sail boats all in dock and I did get to see some of them out later in the day. The whole walk around was awesome and there’s different little things to see at every turn if you take the time to look.
I did read some reviews that said it was boring, I can’t possibly know what kind of life they lead but if they found this place boring then there’s possibly something wrong with them. I’m always surprised at the amount of people with their heads still stuck in a phone screen when in places with all this beauty around them. The only time my phone is pulled out is to take some pictures.
I could never imagine walking around a place like this and not seeing any of it because I’m catching up on Facebook. It’s crazy to me, we miss so much beauty out there because we’re more interested in other peoples business. Anyway, enough if that.
Now to the magical part. As I headed further around taking the longer routes as I mentioned, I head up into the wooded area. There wasn’t another soul there as everyone seemed to prefer the main routes which I was glad of as it made it a very peaceful walk. Now in those woods I throughly I saw something moving so I stopped to look and there they were, four deers grazing in the thick of the woodland, now I’ve only ever seen a deer in the wild once in my life and then it was dark and by torchlight. I absolutely adore these majestic creatures snd always wanted to see one out in the open ( I’ve seen them in parks etc of course) and there was four of them. I was absolutely like a little kid at Christmas and got a bit emotional lol. now they soon ran once they saw me but I saw them and my heart was racing. It was such an honour to me and absolutely topped off what was already an amazing day.
So the fact that it’s an absolutely stunning place to walk and see, then of course seeing the deer that is so rare for me, this place is now up there in my top 5.
I absolutely loved my time there, some places just make you feel at peace with the world and give you hope and Inspiration and this did exactly that for me. I Will absolutely be back on many occasions I feel now.
Of course what one experiences and other may not and we all love and are inspired by different things and places but for me, this is absolutely up there with some of the most beautiful places I’ve been to that do my mind and soul the world of good. 100% recommend and I will be back without a doubt.
Thank you to whoever keeps this place up and running, you have done an incredible job so that people like me get to do and see these stunning places the world has to offer.
