点评:Vishnupad temple is located at @ 4 km away from City Bus Stand and Railway station. Gaya is located 100 km away from Patna City. We had been to Baidyanath temple and had Darshan in the Evening. After that we had dinner and booked bus to Patna. Reached to Patna in the morning @ 05:00 am and then booked one more bus to Gaya. Finally reached to Gaya in the morning @ 08:00 am. Booked hotel and got fresh up and then went to Vishnupad Gaya temple.
Gaya city located on the bank of Falgu River and is considered among most sacred cities of India and has great heritage and history. During the middle ages, the city was part of the Magadh Empire. Three hills, Mangal-Gauri, Shringa-Sthan, Ram-Shila covers the city on three sides.
It is believed that Lord Rama along with Maa Sita had visited this place.
Within the temple stands the immortal banyan tree Akshayvat where the final rituals for the dead takes place.
A special fair takes place in this temple in the month of Pitripaksha. Pitripaksha is a time when Hindus pay respect to their ancestors with Food and offerings.
Architecture of the temple:
Vishnupad temple is located on banks of the Falgu River, marked by footprint of lord Vishnu known as Dharmasila. Inside Vishnu mandir, the 40 cm long foot print of Lord Vishnu is imprinted in solid rock and surround by a silver plated basin. The Construction date of temple is unknown. The present day structure was rebuilt by Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar in the year 1787.
The height of this temple is 30 meter and it has 8 rows beautifully carved pillars which support Pavilion. The temple is built of large gray granite blocks joined with iron clamps. The Octagonal shrine of Vishnupad temple faces east. The Pyramidal tower of the shrine is 100 meters tall. There is a slope in the temple with alternately indented and plain sections. All these plain sections are set at an angle to create a series of peaks at the top, joined.
