点评:We went to Smith's tropical paradise in November of 2024. This was my second luau, but my girlfriend's first (I went to one back in 2012 in Oahu). We decided to try this one out, given all of the fantastic reviews online. In addition, we thought that this would be a more authentic experience than a luau at a resort, and we could not have been more correct. I cannot say enough good things about this luau.
They start you off by taking your picture (which you can later buy for a fee... and we did because it was an amazing picture) and giving you shell leis before taking you on a tour of the botanical gardens. This was a very neat addition that I do not think other luaus do. You then have some free time to explore the grounds, including the greenhouses. We took this time to use our film cameras to take some pictures (they turned out AWESOME). They had a quick ceremony afterwards for the pig roast.
Then, they have you seat yourselves for dinner. We were a little annoyed that some people put their stuff down at seats when they arrived, but we were able to find seats without any difficulty. We were a little skeptical at first, but we ended up sitting next to this lovely couple from Detroit that we stayed and talked with for the remainder of dinner. The drinks were great (although light on the alcohol, so don't be looking to get drunk!). The food was actually very very good. I think that I ate my entire body weight worth of Kalua pork (and I am VERY glad that I did). They also have this sweet and sour fish that is fantastic. They let us go up for seconds, so there is plenty available for the big eaters. Dinner was probably our favorite part of the night.
They later called us over to the theater area for the show. They have handicapped seating for those with disabilities with easy access to the plentiful restrooms located throughout the property. The show was incredible and seemed very authentic. It was much better than the Luau I attended previously. The fire was an added "wow" factor that helped keep us engaged. At the end of the evening, you are escorted out of the property grounds and they have tiki torches lit, which honestly made the grounds seem magical, for lack of a better term.
Overall, this Luau gave us an unforgettable night that was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our trip. Thank you so much to the Smith family for making this one of the most spectacular experiences of my life. I will be recommending this to my friends and family who will be going in June.
