Statue de l’Evêque Saint Fulbert的点评
点评：This contemporary (1997) bronze statue of Fulbert, who was bishop of Chartres from 1006 to 1028, is to be found under a tree on "Place de la Cathédrale", facing the cathedral’s main entrance. It is a work by Italian-born French painter and sculptor Bernard Damiano (born Bernardino Bonaventura, 1926–2000). The artist represents Fulbert as a haggard-looking, bearded old man. He is making a gesture of benediction with his right hand while cradling something in his left arm. From afar, it looked like a baby, but that didn’t make sense. Closer up, we hesitated between rolled documents (referring to his teaching role) or building material (referring to his role in rebuilding the cathedral after a fire) but found no conclusive information. The French inscription on the stone square plinth reads: "Tribute of the City of Chartres to Fulbert, bishop from 1006 to 1028. He rebuilt the cathedral and brought European fame to the Schools of Chartres.
