点评:Joe's gallery was one of the great finds of our trip. Flying under the radar in a house tucked among educational buildings in Kampala, we arrived without an appointment, and he graciously took us in. Spread among multiple rooms and storage units, he shared 10-plus years, starting with well-known items and increasingly revealing his treasures over the two-plus hours of our visit: lesser-known tribal and ritual artifacts from his astonishing collection of mostly East African origins. We left after purchasing 3 large hippo-hide shields from S. Sudan's Dinka cattlemen, and a Tetela mask from nearby DRC, all of which Joe had shipped without incident to the US, in a short time frame. His home/gallery is as much a museum as anything else. I highly encourage a visit — esp. if you are a serious collector who can appreciate Joe's keen eye.
