点评:One of our ports on our cruise was in Sakaiminato. the hometown of the famous cartoon artist in Japan, Shigeru Mura (Mizhki). He created Yokai characters that are a class of supernatural creatures’ ad spirits in Japanese culture. According to legend, these characters can only be seen in time of peace and not war. There are over 100 bronze statues on Mizuki Shigeru Road and the 800-meter (1/2 mile) road has become a popular destination for visitors and locals alike. To do the figures justice it would mean devoting almost an entire day to seeing and viewing and reading the plaques associated with each one. I understand at night the statues are lit up. No matter is your time is limited you are sure to find many photo ops of the eccentric characters (limited time for us because we were on a cruise ship). The city has many shops, sculptures, and murals dedicated to these characters as well as a museum. I made a whirlwind walk down the road but only realized there were so many more sculptures I could have seen if only I had more time. Nevertheless, this is a must see and do for both adults and children alike.
