点评:Our visit to Dangar Falls was spontaneous. We were having dinner at The Cheeky Sparrow Café and a lovely local gentleman decided to have a chat with us – obviously, he picked up that we’re tourists and shared with us other places of interest to see in Dorrigo, once we told him that our main reason for our Dorrigo stay is to see Dorrigo National Park. He told us Dangar Falls and Griffiths Lookout are a must. He said that Dangar Falls is only 2km north of town centre, the falls are beautiful and you can swim at the bottom of the waterfall. Believe it or not, our holiday theme was “chasing waterfalls”. At this point, we had already seen ‘Gara Gorge Lookout’, ‘Wollomombi Falls’ and Ebor Falls - next on the list was Dorrigo National Park (the following day) BUT we squeezed in Dangar Falls after we left The Cheeky Sparrow Café and we were very happy that we did – it’s equally spectacular to see and practical… you are allowed to swim within the waterfalls. We walked to Dangar Falls – an easy 2km walk and arrived at about 6.30pm – not many people there, only a few. The gentleman also told us, that someone with a sense of humour in town, has an artwork on display called “Lavatree” (see photo attached) – it’s on the right-hand side of the road and a little passed the bridge – cheeky but a clever piece of artwork to see. When we arrived at Dangar Falls, there is a viewing platform and Dangar Falls is indeed worth your time – pretty and spectacular indeed. Dangar Falls platform is easily accessible for young children, elderly, strollers and wheelchairs – it’s less than a minute walk from the carpark to the platform. And for the adventurous ones, there is a walking trail (total distance covered of around 1km) that will take you to the river at the bottom of the waterfall, this is where you can access the river pool to swim. The trail walk is ‘easy walking’ but once you leave the last step, the rest is rockery – reminded me of the rocky path at Cathedral Rock National Park. It can be quite tricky and slippery getting to the swimming area. We did walk past a cautious sign ‘No Jumping or Diving’ as deaths have occurred there, many hidden sharp rocks in the swimming area but safe once you have entered the river bed safely. You can also get to the top of the falls if you wish by taking the walk to your right from the starting lookout – I have seen people swim there as well. Everyone can enjoy the views. Well worth a visit and a beautiful place to have a picnic. Entry is free with lots of free parking, picnic facilities and amenities.
