点评:I have been along freeway 94 in North Dakota many times, but never saw this before, so I get the impression that it is fairly new. A friend told me that since I would be in the area, that I should check it out if I had the time. They liked it. So, I had the time, and checked it out.
What is it? A great marketing scheme, that's what it truly is. I met the person in Regent, North Dakota, at the visitors center, who had actually constructed all of the sculptures that make this "enchanted highway." He said it was designed so that Regent, a small, otherwise nondescript town off the freeway by about twenty miles, didn't die out. Frankly, I thought it was worth the side trip.
What it is, are metal sculptures spaced about four to twelve miles apart, just enough that you want to keep going to see the next one, and ultimately, they lead you to Regent, where there is a visitors center, a hotel and restaurant shaped like a castle, and a knight and dragon next to the restaurant/hotel. There was a tour bus group there at the visitors center when I was there, so I got the impression that the marketing scheme is working. I hope it works for them.
Each sculpture has it's own unique theme and a small parking lot. Some have covered picnic benches. If you have the time, and want something different to see, this is worth your time, in my opinion, especially if you like unusual roadside attractions, or artwork.
And you can pick up souvenirs in Regent.
Watch for the Enchanted Highway sign at exit 72.
