Wait until Fall 2026 at least
Denali National Park的点评
点评：On a group trip to Alaska for the first time we hit all the usual suspects.
I knew to do the bus ride if we wanted to see the big wildlife from my previous experience (see that insanely detailed review below) though my previous trip was pre rock slide. I was also curious as to what it would be like now.
While we did see some big wildlife still (moose, caribou, bears), it was not in nearly the quantity or as close as it had been before. Everything was crazy far away.
During my prerock slide trip, animals in quite the number hung out near the road with no thought about it. Also, in other preslide reviews, you will find this was also the case.
When I discussed it with the driver, he told me that I was correct in my observation and that it was because of the construction trucks. He said they constantly speed down the road at all hours, ignoring the speed limits, distributing and endangering the wildlife and thus causing said wildlife to retreat and stay away from the road. He was very upset about it.
We even first hand witnessed one of the trucks loudly racing by towards the end of our tour, which was the last one of the day (and which had been the catalyst for the conversation).
Due to the cost and time commitment, if Denali National Park is on your Alaska bingo card, I would wait until a few months after construction ends before making the trek (so you can go much farther down the road and to give the animals a chance to return).
As of now, construction is slated to be completed sometime in midsummer 2026.
Alaska isn't cheap so I'd wait to go until Summer 2027.
