点评:My son and I toured Boone Hall and Magnolia Plantations while on a recent trip to Charleston. We felt Boone Hall was far more informative and engaging than Magnolia.
When you arrive you go into the former gin mill and schedule a time to tour the home. Inside of the gin mill there is a ton of information on the history of the plantation with wonderful visuals and signage. All throughout the property there were signs to inform you about what you were viewing, which was not the case at Magnolia.
The house tour itself was quite limited with only a few rooms available for display but the rest of the property exceeded expectations. The garden/farm tractor tour was super informative and highly entertaining. I can't recall the name of our guide but he was an older gentleman and infused the information with just enough humor to keep us all laughing. It was very interesting to learn how the plantation has progressed through the years as it changed crops and how it sustains itself today.
The last thing we did was the Gullah Geechee "show". This woman was AMAZING! She had a superb voice and in rapid-fire succession taught us about the life of the enslaved, how they communicated with each other about escapes, their traditions and heritage, the information and skills they brought with them from their native countries and how they survived. She was profound and literally had me in tears at the end. Simply remarkable and not to be missed.
