Great snow experience for someone who is from the tropics

点评：It's less 1.5 hours by shinkansen from Tokyo, but is quite far from the Echigo-Yuzawa train station. There are buses from the train station but you need to check the schedule before you travel because they are not that frequent. We took a cab from the train station to get to the entrance to the resort, and asked the resort staff to phone a cab to take us back to the train station.
The advantage of this resort is that it opens in November and you can spend as much time or as little time as you want. There are frequent shinkansen trips from Echigo-Yuzawa (the trip back to Tokyo can be a bit crowded though).
We went to the resort (Mitsumata) to experience snow. We come from a tropical country and wanted to see snow. We were not disappointed. The snow was thick; from what I've seen on the forecasts, it was snowing every night there since November. The town of Yuzawa was also enveloped with snow; it's a very quiet town but it has the usual Japanese shops and restaurants.
You take a ropeway (gondola) from the resort entrance to the ski area. A round-trip costs only 2,000 yen.
There is a restaurant at the top of the ropeway, and although the food choices were limited (curry, fries), the drink (hot drink, cold drink) were refillable. The cost is reasonable.
I would like to go back to this place, this time spending at least one night so I don't have to hurry back to Tokyo.
