Fantastic First (but far from last) Experience with Inglorious Bustards

点评：I had the privilege of birding three days with Niki, periodically joining up with Simon and Stuart who were leading a large group. Niki worked hard to put us on birds over a wide variety of habitats, in less than optimal weather conditions. Immediately on day one, I felt like I was birding with life-long friends rather than a guide-for-hire service. Their expertise in all things birds and birding was matched both by their passion for the environment, and their warm and friendly personalities.
On the first two days, migration was all but shut down, but that didn’t stop Niki from finding some lingering passerine migrants near Gibraltar, some excellent birding in La Janda, and the jaw-dropping spectacle of stopover gulls, terns and shorebirds at Los Lances. Early in the afternoon on day three, the weather broke and soaring migrants became our goal. Simon and Niki’s local expertise once again was put to the test, and they put us in the perfect spot precisely when raptors started pouring out of the mist on their way across the Straits from Morocco. We spent hours marveling at the hundreds of raptors, storks and other birds passing through. For me it was the perfect finishing touch to three great days of birding.
This was my first trip to Spain, and my first time birding with Inglorious Bustards, but I am already planning my next trip to get out in the field with Simon and Niki!
