点评：On Monday 10th March, I completed my Advanced Open Water (AOW) PADI diving course in Amed with Bali Dive Cove. The experience was excellent, and I couldn’t recommend them more if you’re looking for great dive sites, a fantastic team of instructors, high-quality gear, and a focus on both safety and fun.
From clear and patient instruction on land to attentive guidance underwater, the staff at Bali Dive Cove—Wayan, Bayu, and Boyod—were knowledgeable, thorough, and made learning the AOW skills both engaging and safe. Their approach ensured the well-being of me, other divers, and the aquatic life.
I first completed my Open Water PADI at Bali Dive Cove eight years ago and have since dived in other countries. Returning to complete my AOW here was a great opportunity to develop my skills and access even more exciting dive sites.
To earn the AOW certification, I completed five dives:
* Drift dive at Amed Beach
* Deep dive at the Tulamben Liberty shipwreck
* Wreck dive at the Liberty
* Navigation dive at Jemeluk Bay
* Night dive at Jemeluk Bay
I also completed the corresponding e-learning modules. Before each dive, Wayan or Bayu provided a detailed briefing, covering the dive’s aims, site orientation, potential hazards, and how to handle them. These briefings reinforced my understanding from the e-learning and gave me a chance to ask questions. Discussing depth, currents, expected marine life, and required skills helped prepare me for each dive and eased any pre-dive nerves!
The Dives
Jemeluk Bay – Fun Dive
I started with a fun dive at Jemeluk Bay, a perfect way to refresh my skills and get comfortable in the water before beginning the AOW course. The calm conditions and vibrant marine life made for a relaxed and enjoyable dive.
Amed Beach – Drift Dive
The drift dive at Amed Beach was exhilarating! We glided with the current, taking in the stunning coral formations and abundant fish life. Wayan guided me through the dive, ensuring I stayed aware of my positioning while still enjoying the dive. During this dive we saw several turtles; the Bali Dive Cove staff got some amazing footage of this is on the GoPros which were shared with us guests.
Tulamben Liberty Shipwreck – Deep Dive & Wreck Dive
The deep dive at the Liberty wreck was one of the most exciting. Descending to 30 meters, I could feel the change in pressure and take in the beauty of the wreck, now a thriving reef. The sheer size of the ship was breathtaking, and experiencing it at depth was unforgettable. It was cool (and quite eerie) to witness the colours fade away from the coral and fish as we went deeper too.
Later, I completed a wreck dive at the Liberty, this time with Bayu, where I explored different sections of the ship and admired the intricate coral growth and marine biodiversity. Initially, I wasn’t confident about entering the wreck, but Bayu’s support and guidance gave me the confidence to do so—making it an incredible experience.
Jemeluk Bay – Navigation Dive
The navigation dive at Jemeluk Bay focused on using a compass underwater to navigate a set course. It was a challenging but rewarding experience that helped me build trust in my skills.
We initially had to turn the dive due to unexpectedly strong currents, but this was only a minor hiccup. We simply relocated to a more suitable area and continued the dive as planned.
Later in the dive, another diver in our group struggled with buoyancy and breathing. Wayan quickly assessed the situation and calmly assisted the diver to the surface, ensuring their safety. They ultimately chose to end their dive, and it was reassuring to see how professionally and supportively Wayan handled everything—both underwater and on land. His calm and decisive approach reinforced my confidence in the dive team’s ability to manage any situation.
Jemeluk Bay – Night Dive
One of the most anticipated dives was the night dive at Jemeluk Bay—an unforgettable experience. Descending into darkness with only our torches was both surreal and exciting. The reef transformed, revealing crustaceans scuttling along the seabed and corals, hunting lionfish, and the magical glow of bioluminescent plankton when I moved my hands through the water. It was the highlight of my course!
Each dive brought new challenges and unforgettable moments, and I always felt completely safe and supported by the Bali Dive Cove team. Their professionalism, friendliness, and passion for diving made this an incredible experience.
If you’re considering diving in Amed, whether as a beginner or an experienced diver looking to advance your skills, I can’t recommend Bali Dive Cove enough!
