Spectacular pilgrimage up Mt Zozu
金刀比罗宫的点评
点评：I loved the hike up the Mt Zozo to the top of the spectacular Kotohira-gu (aka Konpira-san/Kompira-san) shrine complex. Yes it's 1368 stairs to the very top, but don't be intimidated by that. Firstly, there are lots of places to sit and rest, most with beautiful views of shrines or the view down the mountain. There's also a cafe/restaurant within the complex, and plenty of washrooms. Lastly the steps are fairly shallow.
There are gorgeous views down the mountainside throughout the walk, including a beautiful view over Kotohira from Gohon-Gu, the main shrine. Walking the last 583 steps from Gohon-Gu to the shrine of Oku-Sha at the top takes you through a forested area (any toilets in this area are rustic, and there is nowhere to buy water in this part, so be forewarned...) At Oku-Sha, you can see the face of Tengu and Karasu Tengu, protruding from the rock (see pics).
I went in late fall (early December) and the red maples and the fallen yellow ginkgo leaves were spectacular. There are 3 museums on site, Omote-Shoin Art Museum, the Museum of Takahashi Yuichi, and Homotsu-kan (the Treasure Hall); which you can either visit separately, or choose to buy an admission ticket for all three. I went to all 3 and particularly enjoyed Omote-Shoin which featured beautiful shoji painted by Edo-period painter Maruyama Okyo. All 3 museums are relatively small and were worth a visit.
Overall I spent 5 1/2 hours at Konpira-san including the short walk to/from Kotohira station, hiking up to the top shrine at a leisurely pace, touring the 3 museums, stopping for lunch at the base of Mt Zozo, and taking tons of photos. You could easily do the walk in half the time if you were so inclined.

总的来说，我在金比罗山花了 5 个半小时，包括往返琴刀比罗站的短途步行、悠闲地徒步前往山顶神社、参观 3 座博物馆、在佐佐山脚下停下来吃午饭，还拍了大量照片。如果你愿意的话，你可以轻松地用一半的时间走完这段路。
