点评:Enjoy postcard-perfect views at this impeccably laid out Zen temple in the Sakyo area. Decided to book a 1 PM visitors' slot at Enkoji Temple after failing to get a slot at Shugakuin Imperial Villas. A leisurely 2 KM downhill walk from Sekinzan-zenin Temple through a quiet residential area, passing Shugakuin & the Sagimori Shrine's Sando Torii on the way. Enkoji has two formal gardens : a dry landscape garden (modernist?) at the entrance with rocks jutting out from the ground depicting dragons in flight and the spectacular maple & bamboo garden going up the hillside. The views from inside the Hondo and adjacent pavilion are iconic, with autumn landscape & ponds beautifully framed by latticed windows, balconies and doorways. Make time to view the handpainted screens displayed inside the main hall. Reserve a visitors's slot (free) during the peak hoyo viewing season. Lots of visitors & tour groups but overall, temple grounds were peaceful. Entrance fee of. JPY 1000 during peak season.
