点评:On a windy and partly cloudy day we walked along the seafront from the Castiglioncello train station up to the “Lo Scoglietto” restaurant, then a little beyond the “Cala dei Medici” marina.
It is a route of over 6 km there and back, quite varied in its appearance, but overall very pleasant (except perhaps in summer, when the sun beats down hard and there is very little shade along the route). In fact it was very crowded, especially in the afternoon, when literally hordes of people pour into this seafront promenade.
The route, almost entirely pedestrianized, starts from the “Pineta Marradi" in Castiglioncello and – towards the end of the Pineta itself – descends from the rocky coast to the sea. Here it's unfortunately heavily cemented by interventions in the 1960s which, in order to establish bathing establishments, involved demolitions even by dynamite to clear the cliffs (this was told to me some time ago by an elderly person who was an eyewitness to the facts).
Continuing, the path alternates sections built with discretion (such as that of the “Bagni Belvedere”) and sections that have remained almost in a state of nature. Among the latter, the section called “I pungenti” (ie, the stinging rocks) is worthy of note because the low and at the same time rocky coast appears as a row of rocks minutely eroded by the wind and therefore rough, almost impassable by bare feet.
Just before the “Cala dei Medici” marina, another toponym, “Monte alla rena” (ie mountain of sand), recalls that here there were coastal dunes up to 30 meters high until the beginning of the 20th century, today completely disappeared because their sand was used to build industrial and residential buildings in Rosignano Solvay.
The route then runs along the marina “Cala dei Medici” (therefore in this section the view of the sea is blocked) to finally continue along the sea again.
At one point of the route there is also a small park, with play equipment for children, well shaded.
Overall, it's a pleasant, long walk, which is the main attraction of an otherwise industrial town like Rosignano, characterized by the presence of the “Solvay” company.
