点评:The Guatavita Museum is an absolute must-visit, offering a fascinating insight into the Muisca people and the origins of the legend of El Dorado. The museum is spotlessly clean, air-conditioned, and well-organized, making it a comfortable and enriching stop before or after visiting Lake Guatavita.
The museum guide was incredibly knowledgeable, providing a deep dive into Muisca beliefs, traditions, and their unique pictorial writing—some of which remains undeciphered to this day. We were particularly intrigued by how this visit connected seamlessly with our earlier trip to the Museo del Oro in Bogotá, where many of the original golden artifacts from this culture are displayed.
It was also eye-opening to learn that the word “Muisca” (which we initially thought was a misspelling of “music”!) has influenced modern names like Bogotá and even the word “arepa”. This museum adds so much historical and cultural context to the Lake Guatavita experience, making it a stop that should not be overlooked. Highly recommended!
