Highly recommend for an incredible birding experience in Uganda.

This was a private 17-day birding tour organised directly between me and Paul Tamwenya at Journeys Uganda. Paul acted as guide and driver throughout my trip, taking care of all logistics, accommodation, permits and other paraphernalia that are an integral and essential part of a bird tour. I must mention the lovely Rosemary, Paul's wife, who ensured the back office functioned seamlessly with the client-facing guides. Good stuff and well done, both of you!
As an experienced birder, having used many operators over the years, this tour worked very well indeed. I have to say it was both a luxury and a pleasure having such a knowledgeable and talented guide as Paul all to myself. To experience the absence of the group dynamics and foibles of other participants found on group tours I have attended was one of the main reasons I went for a private tour (my first as it happens). This trip confirmed the start of a new way of enjoying my birding life.
My pre-tour trepidation about doing a solo tour was laid to rest as soon as we kicked off the tour. Paul has many years’ experience in dealing with clients of all nationalities and this showed at many levels. This was exemplified when we stopped on a roadside for seemingly no reason - but this was far from the case. Paul already knew he had some brand new clients, being guided by one of his team, who were heading towards us at the start of their tour as we were on the homeward leg to finish mine. His new clients were evidently delighted to have the boss of the company do a well-received meet and greet. It was all smiles and a really nice touch by Paul. Bravo, Mr. Tamwenya—more power to your client handling elbow.
Paul knows his birds, being exceptionally sharp in the field at hearing, locating and then pinning down our targets, despite my inadequacies. Shoebill, Green-breasted Pitta and African Finfoot are all now safely OML (on my list!). Grauer's Broadbill didn't want to play ball, so that's a dip I may have to sort out on a future trip.
For those of you who have not been before, Uganda is a fabulous country with a wide variety of habitats, altitude ranges and panoramas. With a list of over 1,000 birds and some very special endemics on offer, I can thoroughly recommend a visit led by Paul or one of his capable teams.
