4X4 or No? That is the question

点评：We were trying to determine if we could drive the entire road to the beach and answers on here and other places were unclear. When you look at Google maps it's hard to tell what is paved and what is not. So, the main, long road is paved and it will get you almost to the shoreline but not shipwreach beach. The pavement ends near the ocean and if you don't want to drive anymore, park by the abandoned cars. If you have a 4x4 you can just continue driving on the hard packed road to shipwreck beach. If you have a sedan it's a little more tricky. We had a Ford Fiesta and started on the hard-packed road. It was fine but about 1/4 mile in, there was a section that seemed impassable. Was it possible to maybe do it? Perhaps. But it wasn't worth it so we parked by an area that has a couple of old stages and hanging mooring balls. A higher sedan could have made it. The rest of the road seemed fine for the most part. It's your call. It's actually a nice walk so I would recommend not doing it in a sedan. When you get to the beach veer inland to the petroglyphs. There are some good vantage points to see the actual wreck near there as well. We didn't bother getting any closer. The beach itself is cute and small. It won't be crowded. This is the windier side of the island but it was not bad at all.
