If you're looking for the perfect spot on Koh Tao to get your Open Water scuba certification, look no further. Despite the island being filled with numerous dive shops, some of which are more well-known, Hydronauts stands out as one of the best places to get certified.
Before I signed up, I did extensive research and was set on PADI or SSI certifications, like many people, I'm sure you do too. They're the most common names you hear when searching for a scuba course. But let me tell you, it doesn’t matter in the long run. It’s like a driver’s license, nobody will ask where you got it from. The goal is to get your scuba license, and Hydronauts offers training through RAID, which will provide more comprehensive instruction during the Open Water course. This was the key reason I chose them.
I ended up doing both my Open Water (Open Water 20) and Advanced (Explorer 30) courses with Hydronauts, and it was the best decision I made. I just went scuba diving with friends right after the courses, and I could already tell the difference in my skills and knowledge. While I’m still new to diving, it was evident that RAID training gave me an edge. There are many foundational skills that simply aren’t covered in standard PADI courses.
Special shoutout to Gareth, my instructor at Hydronauts. While I’m sure there are many fantastic instructors here, if this review helped you decide, definitely ask for Gareth. He’s an outstanding teacher and made the entire experience enjoyable and educational.
Trust me, you won’t regret choosing Hydronauts for your scuba certification.
