Ancient Druid Site

点评：This is a mystical place in the middle of a rural forest , believed to be an ancient Druid ceremonial site. There’s a shallow stone well , known as the “Altar Stone”, at the top of the rock face, that’s gorily said to have been a pagan altar where human sacrifice took place. A footprint carved into the rock beside it , denotes that it could’ve also been a place where royalty was anointed.
The stone steps leading down to the den are really very steep, and slippery with leaves - but a longer circular walk down to the area takes you there more safely.
There are several carvings into the natural rock - but it’s difficult to discern what’s original, and what’s modern.
The poor trees around there have been graffitied, with coins wedged into them, and some strung with ribbons ( clooties) and other peculiar things , as offerings to the fairy folk - ( a lot of which I doubt very much are biodegradable.)
It is without a doubt a beauty spot with the Dunino Burn babbling through it - but IMAO spoilt somewhat by thoughtless vandalism and gifted eyesores.
