点评:We had opened the Visitor Center at the Johnson Space Center on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, and had expected to spend the entire day there. We left in midafternoon and were looking for something else to see rather than the inside of our motel room. While Joyce was working searches on her phone I saw one of those brown & white informational signs on the side of the road, “Lone Star Flight Museum, Next Right.”
I love airplanes, I love a lot of different types of museums, so I took the turn while Joyce did the Internet search thing. The museum’s homepage said it was still open for a couple of hours so we continued. Free parking, a NASA Boeing 707 parked out in front, a Republic F-84 Thunderstreak parked across the street at the American Legion Hall, things were looking up. However, we were already operating on our second, and last camera battery. When we left the Lone Star Flight Museum our battery indicator was in the red.
The Lone Star Flight Museum ranks near the very top of my list of aviation related museums. A good number of airplanes in two hangar areas, not as many as some museums we have visited and more airplanes than some others. There were several rather rare aircraft on display and most in very good condition, looking like brand new. The signage in this well-lit museum is really good in most cases.
One of things that put this museum over the top was the educational panels throughout the museum. These panels, you will see many of them in the video, explained or addressed numerous subjects very well.
Another one of those things that pushed the Lone Star Flight Museum over the top was their presentation on how to make paper airplanes. Why? Because who cannot make a paper airplane? How many paper airplanes have you made in your life and NOT enjoyed it?
We spent about two, rushed, hours at the Lone Star Flight Museum, wishing we had more time. We closed the place after a late start. Free parking in a clean, nice parking lot. Admission was reasonable as I remember. The presentation of the exhibits was super in a well-lit, spacious area. Not stuffed into a small space so you could get pretty good photos.
It appears that some exhibits may be rotational so a return visit may be in order.
Worth the time and money.
Thanks,
Rex

Rex
