点评：This is a must see when visiting Wilmington, NC. This visitor center has a nice display of all ships/boats previously named North Carolina. This was new information to me. The docents were very friendly and helpful, especially helping discover information about a relative that served on the USS North Carolina. They have a log book that lists each man that served and information about his service aboard ship.
The ship is essentially a floating town in addition to its’ war mission. But Everything Is very close quarters. It is no place for the claustrophobic.
They recommend allowing at least 2 hours. Unless you have kids on the move or you are the stroll without reading information board type of tourist, you could spend 4 or more hours. The prices of admission are reasonable considering you can spend most of your day there, but bring snacks for the kids and perhaps yourself because not much food is available. Some snacks in the gift shop or vending machines for drinks onboard ship is all you will find.
There are restrooms outside, nice ones in the visitor center, and one very small one onboard ship.
Try not to visit during the heat of the summer because not only will the deck be hot, but inside the ship will also be hot because there is no air conditioning and never was, even when it was in service. The ship opens at 9 am. I suggest arriving as early as possible so you can tour at your leisure.
If you have time and interest, walk the boardwalk that circles the ship to get full perspective. We even glimpsed an alligator in the water at the bow of the ship. You don’t need an entrance ticket to walk the boardwalk.
