点评:We enjoyed the freedom of driving through the mountains in a self drive Tuk Tuk. The tour was well organised with frequent timely stops along the way. The activities were a lot of fun and something that would be difficult to arrange without local knowledge. The food was glorious. Our guides Nahm and Win created a joyful environment and couldn't have been kinder or more helpful.
We travelled late March/early April. I would advise travelers to do some research before booking at this time of year.
“The majority of farmers in Northern Thailand practise toxic slash and burn farming, also known as Shifting Cultivation in which they burn their agricultural fields to prepare them for the next year’s crops. The smoke wafting up from these crop burning farms fills the air with toxic particles and deteriorates its quality. Burning of the sugarcane fields in central and northeast Thailand further aggravates the problem.”
“While Chiang Mai is the most well-known destination affected by the burning season, other parts of Northern Thailand, such as Chiang Rai, Pai, and Mae Hong Son, also experience similar conditions.”
“The burning season has become so well known that tourists now know to avoid Chiang Mai in the burning season.”
