点评:We found our visit to Finca Tungasuk the most interesting experience of our trip to Cuba. We arranged with them to pick us up in Havana, and we enjoyed talking with Alfredo, who picked us up and returned us to Havana. He explained how they are trying to build a self-sufficient farm while engaging with the surrounding community, with the ultimate goal of making Cuba less reliant on imported food and reviving traditional indigenous foods. It was particularly interesting to learn why and how Alfredo is optimistic about the future in Cuba. He has a very unique perspective, having traveled and worked in many parts of the world. We enjoyed helping harvest loquats and tasting the honey from stingless Mayan bees. In addition to some light volunteer work, which depends on whatever tasks need done at the time, and a tour of the farm, we were served a delicious breakfast and lunch, which were among the best we enjoyed in Cuba. It is inspiring to get to know this couple, their family and the community they are consciously developing and nurturing. Both Alfredo and Annabelle speak excellent English, but it would have been helpful for us to have had more than rudimentary Spanish, to talk with others on the farm.
