A not-to-be-missed quirky Regency theatre with excellent bar and garden facilities

点评：I attended the first of three shows I have booked in the next month, so managed, at last, to get inside. A lot has changed since I was last here in the 1980's to interview Acker Bilk for the BBC.
It's still the charming Regency Theatre it ever was with quirky boxes that involve a lot of standing up to allow the middle person in each row to sit down. The matinee performance of 'Handbagged' about Margaret Thatcher's interaction with The Queen was mildly amusing, rather than 'Fiercely Funny' as the handbill claimed. I couldn't figure out why there were two Queens and two Mrs. T's. The best lines were from the two men, who played a myriad of roles. One was Michael Shea, the Queen's Press Secretary, whose mum taught me maths in the 1960's.
Apart from the millions that have been spent on refurbishment, there's a lot different front of house. A spacious bar, incorporating a shop and a lovely garden make for plenty of space for pre-show and interval socialising.
Next time, I will take some pictures of the garden and bar. Promise.
