点评：How many department stores can boast that they have been designated as a National Historic Landmark and landed a spot on the National Register of Historic Places? And was designed by noted architect Daniel Burnham? Growing up, I was awed when walking from floor to floor at Marshall Field's. Located at 111 North State Street, when State Street really was the Great Street, before North Michigan Avenue of the Mag Mile became the place to shop, Marshall Field's covers an entire city block with State Street on the West, Randolph Street on the North, Wabash Avenue on the East and Washington Avenue on the South. Founded in 1858, it was acquired by New York-based Macy's in 2006. Somehow, it doesn't feel the same. But it still is the Great American Department Store that Marshall Field envisioned in the 1800s. Open from 10 to 8 Monday through Saturday and 11 to 7 on Sunday, it still has seven floors or retail space, granite pillars outside, the Great Clocks at each corner, the Walnut Room, Austrian chandeliers, Tiffany ceiling featuring 1.6 million pieces of iridescent glass and an imposing atrium. Start with a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Is there anything that you want to buy that Macy's doesn't offer? Houseware, gifts, furniture, wine shop, book store, men's and women's clothing, shoes, cosmetics, jewelry, fragrances, toys, gourmet foods, bakery, food hall, bridal salon, electronics, cookware. There may be a different name on the facade but Macy's on State Street continues to live up the Marshall Field's tradition.
