The Gift Shop That Killed the Vibe

点评：We stopped at the Pirate Museum while getting off the boat in St Thomas and decided to look around the gift shop first. The younger woman working was kind, but the two older women made the experience uncomfortable from the moment we walked in. One older woman in particular stood out for all the wrong reasons with how rude she was.
I was shopping with my 9 year old autistic son, who is an eloper, so staying close to him is always the priority. He was in a great mood, excited about the things he found, and we were just trying to enjoy a simple moment as a family. Instead, this woman hovered over us the entire time. She followed behind us, cut in front of us, and stood so close it felt unnecessary and intrusive.
I asked her twice if I could place our items on the counter. She looked at me and completely ignored me both times. No acknowledgment, no response. At one point, I picked up another item and she stepped in front of me like I was heading for the door. Meanwhile, I’m literally just shopping. Being a customer. Doing exactly what people come into a gift shop to do.
I don’t know if the issue was our child, our family, or something else entirely, but the way she acted made it feel personal. We weren’t doing anything other than browsing, staying close to our son, and enjoying our morning.
We chose not to buy museum tickets because paying to be around rude women was not on our vacation agenda. We purchased the few items we already had and left.
St Thomas has been wonderful overall, but this one stop did not reflect the warmth and hospitality we’ve felt everywhere else.
