点评:This is an incredible place to visit...not just for the humbling war memorial -which is worth visiting all on it's own...but the views are rather special.
Designed by the Architect Louis Harrison, the site was chosen by the town planner Charles Reade. The monument is a white concrete tower, in the form of a tapered lighthouse and surmounted by a 'torch of liberty'. This torch is 1.8 meters high and faced with 40 panes of prismatic glass. During the day sunlight plays through this glazing giving the torch the illusion it is lit.
On Anzac Day 1925 General Paine opened this...which makes sense because the bathroom facilities at the site have an Art Deco appearance.
When the Great War broke in out in July 1914 J.J.Paine volunteered for service. In 1915 he was despatched to Melbourne to command 2,700 troops on the Ceramic, the largest troopship that left Australian shores. A further command of 2,200 troops on the Euripides brought him in touch with the Anzac Mounted Division then operating in Egypt, Sinai and Palestine. He was awarded the rank of full Colonel, then the rank of Brigadier-General. He held the 1915 Star, the General Service and Victory Medals and the Victoria Decoration. An interesting thing to note about J.J. was that he was educated at the Albury Grammar School.
There are information boards and plaques at the site, very thoughtfully laid out. The area in front of the memorial is a square that has room for many people to attend services. There is limited car parking available at the top, but you can walk to the memorial. (Particularly if you are a fitness junkie :) )
From the memorial there are views of Albury township... two lookout areas exist... one is just down the slope next to some picnic tables and then the second is at the memorial itself. Both are going to offer you some impressive views.

关于 J.J.
