点评:So, this is the famous petrified forest. Honestly, I was underwhelmed after hearing about this world famous location for my entire life. The total area of exploration is limited to a single track path, laid out as a circular loop, that is 0.5 miles in length; a separate 0.25 mile spur (one way) leads off to a smallish ash field and a view of Mount Helena. Along the main 0.5 main loop, there are 5 fenced-off, very large specimens of petrified trees (all laying on their sides on the ground). Information placards are at each location to provide a brief history. There are random large chunks of petrified trees strewn throughout, many of which you are able to sit on/touch. But, this is it; this is the entirety of the world famous petrified forest. Should you visit? Yes. Will you go back again? Likely not.
