Spectacular views - family fun and gliders galore.
Dunstable Downs的点评
点评：I have driven past Dunstable Downs on many occasions on the way to Whipsnade Zoo, which is not too far from DD. I took my two sons (11 and 8) for a day in the sun.
Parking can be an issue - recommend highly arriving in the morning (before 12 latest) if you want any chance of parking safely. There are car parks, but they fill very quickly and then people park along the road, which is not safest option - especially for anyone with children.
The views from the top are spectacular. The weather was perfection whilst we were there. There is a visitor centre, with shop, cafe and toilets and then pathways leading to a variety of walks - which are wheelchair/buddy accessible too for large sections.
From the top you can access a map showing some key places in the distance. There is a lot of space for kite flying and ball games (but there was not a breath of wind on our day). The London Gliding Club is down on the fields a the bottom of the steep hillside offering perfect viewing of planes taking the gliders up.
In the visitor centre you can buy a map of the area, but they also had free National Trust maps with some walks to enjoy. We decided to walk down the slope (north towards Dunstable). We enjoyed our packed lunches on the hill at the end of the landing place for gliders and took in the amazing views and action. We carried on down and round in an anticlockwise direction bringing us to the lower path - much closer to the gliders. We finally reached the 'Hill of Doom' sign with a steep incline path back up to the visitor centre. [There are other options available].
HIGHLY RECOMMEND for a day out.
