点评:At first I thought 5 days at Stephen Foster State Park would be too much, after all it's kind of in the middle of nowhere. Then I remembered the middle of nowhere is often where I like to be. This "middle of nowhere" is conveniently located close to I-75 and I-10, making it easy to get to. It is also full of hiking and cycling trails, not to mention close to Florida's only class III rapids, and other places to paddle. So our 5 days were filled with hiking, leisure cycling and exploring the area, with ample time to relax in between.
We stayed at site 15, and although not really private, its perfect for games, throwing a ball, kids etc. For a full campground video tour visit the link in my bio.
The sites were very clean and well tended to. The grounds themselves have been through a rough couple of hurricane seasons, with many downed trees and misshapen bushes. Overall they have done a great job to clear the trails and sites and make them useable, if not all "pretty". So as of Jan 2025 some sites did appear to have some cut up trees or bushes nearby, not blocking the functionality, but maybe not yet hauled away.
It is a peaceful campground with many nice sites, and quite a few trails along the Suwannee or amongst the sand pines.
The camp hosts were often driving around tending to sites and keeping everything clean. Sites had picnic benches, fire pits and a grill. in Jan 2025 they were selling firewood at the park check-in office, which is located in the craft village.
Tip: Check-in is a surprisingly long way into the park and ¾ of the way around the "circle" surrounding the Carillion tower and plantation style buildings, passing by the way to the campround, over by the craft village. Once you check-in, then you will complete this loop and go ½ way around again and then follow signs to the campground.
There is a nice playground for the kiddos.
