点评：We visited The National Museum of Transportation in St. Louis, Missouri, on Thursday, September 26, 2024. The parking is free, clean, well maintained, and spacious. Admission costs were reasonable. There are a few airplanes, a few watercraft, plenty of trucks & cars, and lots train stuff. The signage is overall good. I do have issues. The Douglas C-47A is the Skytrain in U.S. service and the Dakota in the service of the U.K. The Museum has it labeled by its nickname – The Gooney Bird. While they tell you who made the locomotive and many facts about it, they do not tell you the model, such as EMD GP-7 or GP-38.
The Museum is child friendly with numerous displays specifically set up for those “of lesser years.” We enjoyed walking the Storybook Trail. The handcar attraction was not “equipped” during our visit. The small scale railroad was operating, at an additional fee. If we had not been time critical we would have ridden it. The trolley was free, asking for donations, was tikes might enjoy it for the fun and a place to sit for a while.
We spent about four and a half hours there and took over 500 photos during our visit. Plan on walking a lot and have sun or weather protection. You can traipse through the rail yard and barns so wear shoes that allow walking on crushed rock – rail bedding, as well as shoes that allow you to step over rails and other obstacles.
We really enjoyed this museum and recommend putting it in your vacation planning.
